Gui Jing will live on forever in our hearts

Ladies and Gentleman,

Gui Jing and I have known each other over 25 years. We shared many common interests, from swimming to badminton; from mathematical modelling to practical innovations.

Whenever we gathered together, he had endless topics, from cosmology to earth science, from relativity to nano-techlogy, from quantum mechanics to new energy resources. Many of us enjoyed and were admired by his broad knowledge and remarkable visions.

Whenever we have a Kara-ok, Jing never let a microphone leave his hand. His high pitch voice and beautiful songs are still echoing in our ears. His unique gestures are still vividly in front of our eyes.

24 years ago, before we finished our graduate study in the summer of 1984 at Northeastern University, China, each student put one phrase along with his or her photo and was printed in a memorial year book.

Here is what Gui Jing wrote: (May I read it in Chinese?)

啊，逝去了。。。逝去了你那骄傲的足音，你终于如传说的那样---无声而来，又无语而去了吗？年轻的神？

Here is the English version:

"Ah! Gone… gone is the proud echoing of your footsteps
in the end, as in the saying, are you coming silently and going without a word, my young god?"

Probably, no one knew what Gui Jing was trying to tell us at that moment. One of our friends reminding us to re-examine this paragraph, it seems to me that Jing knew his fate and had some sort of connection with his god.

Today we are gathering together to remember all the good days we were together and celebrate Jing’s new life. Gui Jing’s smile, voice, courage, strength and spirit will live on and on forever in our hearts!

Jing had many friends around the world. I am going to read a condolence from one of his friend, Xia Ke Nong from Australia.
